Centralized Public Broadcasting System
The CPBS portal is a gateway for broadcasting messages with a multi-tier architecture and secure Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (http). It has three levels of users: State, District, and Taluk. Users can record and schedule messages, including periodicity, and tag messages based on criticality. The application can broadcast from text to speech and can be scheduled to play during disasters even if the network or power is not available. The main component of the CPBS is the Network Audio Unit, which has a single-board computer, client application, and database for storage and broadcasting messages. The public address system consists of amplifiers and speaker horns from Ahuja Radios. The system is connected to UPS with sufficient battery backup and uses power only when a message needs to be delivered. The horns are installed on a 15-foot pole above the building for better geographical reach and have a lightning arrester to safeguard the equipment. All equipment is placed at the Grama Panchayat inside a secured metal box. CPBS has been implemented as an Early Warning System (EWS) at 15 Gram Panchayats in Raichur District, Karnataka, to provide rapid, reliable, and effective communication of major emergencies and natural disasters.
